USA Flag - God Bless America Cleveland Ohio Red Light Cameras

The City of Cleveland, Ohio, is installing 42 cameras, 30 red-light camera systems and 12 speed cameras at various intersections throughout the area to help increase city revenues and possibly reduce traffic accidents. A red-light camera is a device designed to identify drivers who have run red lights. A vehicle owner whose car has crossed through the intersection while the light is red will receive either a $100 red light ticket or a $200 speeding ticket in the mail from the City of Cleveland. Yet another reason to NOT drive into Cleveland! On 1-25-2006 the Plain Dealer reported that 2,300 tickets were issued, and 97% of the tickets were generated at E71st and Chester Avenue. That statistic suggests that perhaps the camera has not been setup correctly? Or perhaps from the Traffic/Finance dept it is setup correctly and all the other cameras need adjusted to produce more tickets.

NewsNet5 TV reveals the latest top 5 traffic ticket speed traps in the Cleveland area. http://www.newsnet5.com/news/6839160/detail.html

Automobiles are so commonplace in the U.S. that's is easy to forget what powerful machines they are when you get behind the wheel. But because improper use of a car can seriously endanger many lives, every driver should be careful, courteous, drive defensively and they must abide by all traffic laws. Not doing so (and getting caught), can lead to fines, license suspension and even jail time.

You may wish to search for a Cleveland area traffic lawyer to help you contest your ticket in court, but that can easily cost more than the ticket. There is currently a court case where an attorney is attempting to toss out the tickets based upon the fact that they are 'civil violations' while Ohio Law requires Red Light or Speeding tickets to be a 'criminal violation'. Hopefully the case will result in the cameras being declared illegal. There will be more information on this later.
If you have had a car accident, personal injury due to a car accident, or a dui or dwi, you should have a lawyer to protect your rights in court. Article on the lawsuit: http://www.newsnet5.com/automotive/6459176/detail.html?rss=nn5&psp=news
